[A slight headtilt to indicate interest. She's not in the business of "favors", but Roc has provided energy just by coming here. So, there's no reason to not hear her out.]
[ well, to be honest, she'd do a quest for lilith in exchange for the information as well; she's not opposed to a little quid quo pro ]
Would you be willing to share with me about your memory? One of my friends, a cat, assigned me a quest to ask three echoes about what they remember from before Kyriakos.
[IT'S FINE, GOSH!!! This is such a small thing, and she has no secrets.]
That would be fine. Hm.... [She has to think back, though, divert her thoughts from research and future plans.] Are you aware of what it means to be a paraplegic?
[She doesn't think Roc is stupid, but it's always good to get science-y terms explained.]
One of equivalent exchange. You see, offerings given freely are worth much more than an unwilling sacrifice. It's something of a general rule when it comes to mystic rites.
I had no use for a frail body that science alone could not empower.
"Humanity" is a complex measure of sentience and the capacity for ethics and or benevolence. My soul was transferred over intact and unaltered, so such a trait was not forfeit.
[Her bone features, her voice, continue to be as calm as ever.]
My attempts to find a cure for my disability had been viewed as a sin from the moment I began any kind of research into the matter. Protests came from all sides, for illogical reasons.
... So... that's what humanity means to you, then? Not... mortality, or your human body, but... ethics and benevolence?
[ she's pretty sure that's not what she gave up. at least--she... thinks she's still ethical? and kind?
MAYBE SHE NEEDS TO CHECK HERSELF!?!--but no, caretaker would have... said something, surely, if she was going to become some kind of heartless monster. ]
Yes. After all, mortality isn't something exclusive to the human race.
And truthfully, I only use "humanity" as a term because of my origins. Other species with sentience-level intellect will have their own words for the concept.
I thought that sort of thing was just... decency, though. Because there's lots of echos who aren't or weren't human that are ethical and benevolent. Gods, too.
But sentience isn't either, right? So labeling decency or sentience as a property of being human--that's... biased? Prejudiced?
[ okay, maybe this sounds like a really boring conversation to anyone outside, but hiyori is fascinated and also maybe feeling a bit bad at what it's revealing, because-- ]
My advice is simple enough to give, yet often less so to properly enact. It takes time to change one's self.
Behave counter to what the bias would demand. If you once believed decency and the like to be a property of humans alone, strive to think differently. Remember that such qualities are a property of any thinking, feeling being, and that humans are but one sentient species among billions.
Repetition is often the key to believing, and practice makes perfect.
[ she would deny having thought any of those things--at least consciously--but her own words kind of make that. a lie. so she just has to accept and nod. ]
Okay. I'll try. ...I'm sorry, if I mess up between now and then. But I'm going to work on it.

Do you ever regret it? Giving up your humanity, or your--human body? Did your family and friends object?
